GroupBasis

A basis element of the group algebra k[G]k[G], named by its group element's label. The product is the group's own multiplication, extended bilinearly.

Domain: Group algebras

Details
  • Groups: CyclicGroup(n) with elements 0…n−10 \dots n-1, DihedralGroup(n) with elements k for rkr^k and s k for srks r^k, and GroupDirectProduct(g, h)
  • k[Zn]k[\mathbb{Z}_n] multiplies by adding indices mod nn — it is k[x]/(xn−1)k[x]/(x^n-1)
  • k[G]k[G] is commutative exactly when GG is abelian
  • Dihedral relations: rn=1r^n = 1, s2=1s^2 = 1, srs=r−1s r s = r^{-1}
  • dim⁡k[G]=∣G∣\dim k[G] = |G|, and Basis(GroupAlgebra(group)) lists the elements

Examples

Basic #

2+5=7≡12 + 5 = 7 \equiv 1

live ↗
InGroupProduct(CyclicGroup(6),GroupBasis(2),GroupBasis(5))\mathrm{GroupProduct}(\mathrm{CyclicGroup}(6), \mathrm{GroupBasis}(\text{2}), \mathrm{GroupBasis}(\text{5}))OutGroupBasis(1)\mathrm{GroupBasis}(\text{1})

∣D4∣=8|D_4| = 8

live ↗
InAlgebraDimension(GroupAlgebra(DihedralGroup(4)))\mathrm{AlgebraDimension}(\mathrm{GroupAlgebra}(\mathrm{DihedralGroup}(4)))Out88
Properties #

s2=1s^2 = 1

live ↗
InGroupProduct(DihedralGroup(4),GroupBasis(s0),GroupBasis(s0))\mathrm{GroupProduct}(\mathrm{DihedralGroup}(4), \mathrm{GroupBasis}(\text{s0}), \mathrm{GroupBasis}(\text{s0}))OutGroupBasis(0)\mathrm{GroupBasis}(\text{0})

so k[D4]k[D_4] is not commutative either

A basis element is a label of our group algebra's own elements; Wolfram has no group algebra.
